Does your aftermarket one fit well?

    A) Yes - Then just chrome it.

    B) No - Then find a stock one in better shape and chrome it.

What is the aftermarket one made of ? If it's cheap China steel it's going to rust right through your new chrome

I'd chrome either one. I've had no issues with aftermarket ones.

Chevys always look better with polished parts or reannodized bright work

I believe the aftermarket one is aluminum as well but seems more flimsy than an original one I think I'll just with till I find an original 64 grill that's in good shape ready to be chromed and honestly I'm trying to stay away from aftermarket parts unless I can't find what I need then my last resort is aftermarket I know there are plenty of og grills out there if anybody has gone let me know thanks for al your advise.

I recommend chrome plating none. But since you are dead set on doing so. Do the original one as it is a tiny bit thicker at the bends than the repop. Make sure you are dealing with a plater that knows what he's doing.

Also whichever you use install it on the car almost completely. Then remove it without bending much and take to plater specifying part as is. But when it does chip n flake off. You will remember what I mentioned.

If I needed it to be more Shiney than stock but not as delicate as chrome id high polish it then clear coat it. Not as nice but not the stock anodized finish either. Let us know what the chrome turns out like.

I like chromed aluminum. There's no real substitute for it. But its very delicate and u have to pamper the car when washing and drying
