It should be the slide bar you mentioned. Off, Economy, Low, Auto, Hi, Bi-Level, Def. Each one does something different EX:
DEF - Dial @ 85 - Air should be delivered out of the defroster oulets at fixed high blower speed. Some Floor Bleed out
Bilevel - Dial @ 75, Air should be delivered from both A/C and Heater outlets at reduced blower speed, only small portion from defroster
HI - Dial at 65 - Air delivered out A/C Outlets at fixed high blower speed
    etc, etc

Check this fuses: (and all while you're there)
2nd from top left - should be 15A
    My Feedback

On a long enough time line, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

Usually in gm climate controls the resistors go bad. Its a little thing with different resistors in it that control the power to the fan for different fan speeds. Trace the power back from the fan to see where power stops

Resistors r usually in the heater box on top in the engine compartment. G bodys they're super easy 2 change and cheap. Caddys they may be a part of a bigger "computer" type thing on the heater box. The resistors themselves r like curly fries of different shapes. Should be where the fan gets its power from so follow the wire back
