a great thing with this project was that i came up with an IDEA of how i wanted it to look. This drawing has helped me out for the past couple years. with so many new parts coming on and off the market, its hard to stay firm with ONE idea and not change the whole concept half way thru...i made these drawings just a couple months after purchasing the car ad still have these to help me stay on track with my original ideas...

first thing i started with was the dash.

with wanting a tan and blue interior/exterior scheme i had to ditch the black quick. first thing i did was purchased the instrument cluster gauge stickers. i purchased them from whitegauges.net (i think). this website is cool becuase they also sale Replacement bulbs that upgrade the old style BULB to LED lights. The sticker is white so when you purchase the LED lights you can choose what color your want and the colored LED glowing on the WHITE background illuminates your dash that color. i loved it. plus DIGITAL GAUGES are too dam expensive and i heard are known for going out...

i decided to go with BLUE LED replacement bulbs...i think my car took 11 bulbs, which cost me around $55.

after updating the gauges, i wanted to get rid of the black, FOR GOOD!!!! yuck

i took the dash all apart. a color i chose to go with inside was "URBAN BEIGE". all the parts were painted using spray can in Urban beige which is a VALSPAR paint color. (sold by lowes home improvement store), most of my dash is Plastic and Metal, so i found this to be a great way to "restore" my dash.

i started off by working around the instrument cluster...

after all that work i had 2 things i didnt like....

    1. the Black around the A/C-heat/Radio area
    2. The Chrome dash trim along the instrument cluster and above the glovebox.

i did a little research online for ideas of what i wanted...i found out that the 68 CAPRICE has woodgrain trim throughout the inside. This is PERFECT!!! i already have a wood grain wheel, so this is exactly what im lookin for...i did a lot of hunting on ebay and google for the CAPRICE wood trim but never had any luck....
i got in touch with a buddy from this forum. Dez. he has several 68 parts cars and had just the parts i was lookin for. He unbolted the parts and sent them my way VIA USPS. i received them, cleaned them up a little and installed.

notice, the trim above the glovebox says Caprice....i had to update this to be more specific for my car...so i made a different insert and hand painted a blue impala...

so now the dash is complete time to start the rest of the interior.

i removed the front seat, then removed the old sound deadener and old carpet.

next step was rust treatment POR 15

the next task will be new sound deadener and new carpet!
