Default 78 Lincoln town car slow acceleration

I working on a friends 78 town car and when I drove it to my house....car had very slow acceleration......couldn't get above 25 and barley made it up hill. No slipping and didn't seem to run rough or back fire.....just no power. Had the pedal to the floor and just very slow. Could be fuel/carb issues? Not too experienced with these older cars but I know a little. Just a little advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Check the easy things first, spark plugs, cap, rotor, wires, fuel filter, fuel pressure, air cleaner.

Peek inside the carb and see if it squirting fuel or it it is spraying too much to the point of bogging the car down.

Dont know if that year you have a mechanical or electronic fuel pump. That would be the first thing to replace (if it is mechanical).

It almost sounds like a clogged exhaust, hope the timing fixes it. Let us know
