Hey what's up Layitlow family. The car I am currently working with is a 1961 Impala Bubble Top. Please keep in mind that as much as I would have liked to build this from the frame, my resources are limited at this point so had to "buy built". My father (long time lowrider builder), has always told me that there is nothing better than building a ride up by yourself and one day I plan on taking on a project like that but as of right now I am 21, working full time, and also going to college as a full time student.
At age 15 I bought my first car which was an $800, 79 Monte Carlo and after I put a little work into it I sold it for a small profit and kept doing that with every car owned in hopes of one day finding a 61. With that being said I am now the proud owner of this Impala 6 years later. I am not the type of person who takes credit for other peoples’ work; I am going to be straight up with how I ended up with it. I bought the car last year from a guy in Texas and was able to track down the last 2 owners prior to his ownership (you may know them) but as of right now I haven't received their permission to post up their names; all I can say is that they are active layitlow members. The car looks as if it were a frame off at one point but not 100%. The engine bay and undercarriage are chrome, the frame and engine are painted to match, and the interior looks like it was done recently.
Personally, I have bigger plans for the car and have made some moves within the last few months. I put some 72 spoke gold Daytons, bought some gold upper and lower a-arms, gold trailing arms, a chrome y-nanna bar, and a few other things that I plan on installing here in the next month or so. I don’t have pics of the car before I got it but will start to take as many as I can now that I started a thread. The car is currently at the shop getting the passenger door replaced and painted due to a minor accident the previous owner had, but should be back home within the next week or so.
I have been using it as my daily driver but as I get more things done to it, it's going to be sitting in garage most of the time. As for my time frame, I’m hoping to have it up to par by May 5th and hopefully get it out to some shows this year with my dad who is also bringing out a fresh frame off 63 SS. I never really intended to make a thread but I was recently given the opportunity to be on the layitlow banner and thought it would be a good idea to give you some background info about it; plus it will help me stay motivated haha. Thanks for reading. Now time for pictures:
