my homie has an 83 cadi 4.1 v8 when you turn the car on it sounds nice idles fine etc. When you put it in gear the car shut off. Any ideas why?

maybe its just idling to low or just needs a tune up. my car does that every so often but i also havent tuned my car up in a while

Hey, First start with checking to see if the TPS and idle speed control is adjusted correctly. A good place to start. PEACE
When was it last tuned up. If not only use AC Delco stuff

check the fuel filter that might be it

unplug the plug on the side of the tranny . if the lock up switch is stuck it will lock the converter and stall the motor..

That's a good place to start..if that dos'nt work take off the distributor cap and replace the module, it looks like a semi flat piece of plastic connected to wires on both sides that pull off then take the 2 small screws that hold it in .
