im bout to replace my dashboard in my 1985 monte but i aint never took one out how many bolts does it have? and i need any info on taking the dash instrument out too. anybody with dash knowledge speak out


hope its not hella hard cuz if it is ill still give it a try whicis not always good :biggrin:

If you haven't done it before then it could be a pain. Plan on at least one day. Disconnect your battery. Get some sandwich bags or something to keep the screws you remove in. Try to keep track off what screws go where. I recommend using lots of sandwich bags and marking them with the location that the hardware came from. You have four screws in the defroster vents that need to come off. Be careful you don't destroy the shift indicator when remove the section of dash where the gauges are.


I would recommend going to a DIY junkyard and practicing taking the dash out of one of their cars. If anything, you will at least have spare hardware to replace the ones you will lose during disasembly.

Oh, the headlight switch has a little button that you have to press to remove the headlight knob.

i kinda have the same questions.....like is it possible to change the entire interior from one color to another, what i mean can alot of the interior be painted, like dash, and plastic trim.....or will it look tacky, and i should buy new interior....

i found this website, but it looks like i'm going to need alot of money to change the interior, any help :)

yup......and pretty soon it will be hitting the streets of H-town(well once i get it painted) :biggrin:

mines gonna be hittin da streetz of kc but i still gotta finish my dash i already got the other new one but i got to break the factory welds off of the one that i got under and i hate that shit cuzz ima have to drill it

I find hobby paint is the best paint and then I finish it off with a few coats of clear coat. You really wanna wash down and lightly sand the piece you want to paint. Otherwise it will look like crap later on when it dries. I would practice on some spare interior pieces until you get it right
