Simple enough.
DOT Air Brake line is measured O.D. (outside diameter)
So 5/8" O.D. airline is truly 1/2" ID
5/8" OD = 1/2" ID
1/2" OD = 3/8" ID
3/8" OD = 1/4" ID

Having 1/2" valves with 1/2" line is ineffecient. To get full potential from a 1/2" valve you need 5/8" Airline when going DOT.

I was running 1/2" Parker Gold Valves (5/8" orifice) and 3/4" line getting all 4 airborne on one hit at 200psi.

Check the yellow pages in town. Look for a place that does work on Semi Trucks. They should have some DOT Air Brake line for sale.

Are you sure your using DOT Nylon AirBrake line?

Because I have 100 foot roll each of 3/8", 1/2", and 3/4" I could Mic at the shop tomorow. It IS measured OD in the books.

as long as I've been doing shit with air and oil lines, the rule has always been..

tubing is sized by OD
hose is sized by ID

lets say I were running non DOT line...(which I am)

if I bought DOT fittings, and the line fit, what does that teach us?

Why the fuck is 216 running 1/2" valves with 1/2" od Lines?
That shits backwards!!!!

U are still limited at 1/2" to 5/8" fitting.. but thats not worth noting.

but if you then drop to 1/2" line like 216..might just as well run 3/8 valves...

Please correct me if i am wrong but 1/2" NPT does not measure 1/2".................
It is larger than 1/2".......... more like 5/8" on a ruler......

Need proof?

my point exactly
;)

thats why 1/2" DOT line is 1/2" OD, not 5/8 like you said...

or at least I think you said

so many numbers I forgot now...
