I bought a 84 mc for 100dollars and I'm bout to start workin on it. The body is completly straight.. I'm going to have interior done and want to put hydros. I want it to be show quality but also weekend driver. I have color schemes picked out. Jus one thing.... it came wit a 305 motor I was goin to rebuild and dress up.. but I am now thinkin bout rebuildin a 350 and dressin it up. I am stuck between the two and could use some help to decide. Let me know what you think. Thanks

fuck that go with a 400 small block. tons of torque my dad has one in his car wayyyyy better than any stock type 350 iv drivin

depends on what you want are you gonna rebuild totally stock or you gonna do a oversized cam bore the block , i would stay with stock 305 and put a 272 or 292 cam aftermarket intake and carb keep it simple but still throw some performance in it

big inch small blocks are bad ass. and your not gunna drive it that much so who care about fuel mileage. just be sure to upgrade you cooling system.

I'd run with the 305. They have the stroke of a 350, but the bore of a 283. They have lots of torque, and are likened to mini 383's. You can also use alot of parts off of other engines as well.

the 305 is a pos tho. rebuilding a 305 isnt worth it in my opinion. id go 350. i have a 305 in my 77 impala thats about to be replaced with a 350. there are ways to get good power from the 305 but its not going to last long. if u still wanna use the 305 ill post up a link i have on my moms comp later that tells how to get 400hp out of it.

i say 350.. theres a reason the 350 has lasted so long and is so easy to come by.........

and im getting tired of 350s . thats what is expected when  put a car together it getting boring.  go with the 400  or even rebilding the 305 with lots of power parts i think would be cooler than a regular 350
x2! if you got the cash, somethin fuel injected would be the way to go imo, but honestly the reason everyone goes 350 is it's cheap, and parts for it are cheap.

If you are gonna put 13x7s on it you will not be able to put all that potential power to the pavement. If thats the route you are going I would say add a few performance goodies to the 305 and call it a day.

What would be the point of an 350 or 400 Small block in a car with hydro and 13's???

Any amount of power those engines will make will be wasted cause you wont be able to fully put its true power to the ground with some 13's..

Im not THAT big into lowriders but I though you guys like it low and slow.

I would just keep the 305 and freshn it up a bit, BUT for the price to build an 305 you can build a 350 for pretty much the same amount of money. Its all up to you.

Btw 400sb are know for over heating an take a bit to keep cool. Unless your racing at the track its no need for a 400sb or crazy 350.

True you can build the 350 for the same price as the 305, but you have to look at the big picture.

1. You have to buy the 350 which leads to additional cost.

2. The possibility of having to beef up other components (trans, rear end, cooling system) which also would lead to additional cost.

3. Gas mileage will suffer (as if its not bad enough on 13s). This is really only a issue for people who's lolo is their daily.

These are not all deal breakers, just some other things to take into consideration.

Yeah but you can get a 350 block off craiglist or from the junk yard for 300 or less, im sure he dosent need anything crazy so a complete rotaing assembly would be like 500 or less or might even find a nice short block off CL for a low price with decent low miles on it and just need to build the top... There wouldnt be an need really to beef up the trans/rear/ or cooling too much unless he plans on putting out 300+ hp/trq
