in 80's full size cars- impalas, rwd caddys, deltas, caprices..... if you remove the a/c unit, do you lose the heat too????

just making sure.

also, is the a/c unit the only thing i will need to disconnect from the dash/computer?????

thanks....

I'm not sure I completely understand what you're attempting to remove. But, if you remove the compressor, condensor, evaporator, etc. you will still have heat as long as you do not remove the blower motor and the wiring that goes to it.

The blower motor and box for it will be inside the car on the passenger side behind the dash.
so i can keep the heat and get rid of the a/c?

i have another dash i can look at, but it's in a crate, and i dont want to open it....

ac unit controlls the cold air.

heater core controlls the heat.

blower motor blows them in your face.

yes, you will still have heat if you remove the a/c. Just don't remove the blower motor (yes, the buldge on the firewall)

the heater core is usually in the dash and it is connected to the engine by 2 hoses. Coolant circulates and the heater core is bacally a small radiator.
Thats why the engine has to heat up a little before the heat starts working.

in simple terms... you can get rid of the a/c but youll still have the buldge. i pulled out my heater box, and no longer have ac or heater or a blower motor.

Are you trying to install something in the dash that you're looking to take it out? or maybe some weight reduction?
no, actually, the way i shouldve worded the ost should've been "molded firewall, can i keep the heater..."

im going back and forth on this one...... the problem is, the a/c works fine on this car, but, i have another project i would definately do this on..... but, both?????

maybe....... :dunno:

the heater isn't the buldge. Thats the blower moter. (fan)

The heater is in the dash behind the radio. You won't see it without taking off the dash board.

But to answer your question...if you get rid of the buldge (blower motor) you won't really need the vents.

You can plug your heater core if you don't want any heat.

yes.

The heater and a/c are 2 completely different things.

the a/c creates cold air.

the heater creates hot air.

the blower motor (fan) just blows them at you through the vents.

If you get rid of the both the heater and the a/c you will have no use for the vents.

If you keep one of them...(heat or a/c) you will need the vents still.
