Bagging my 62 impala. Are you guys running shocks? How or where did you relocate the shocks ? I have the b.c fab relocation brackets which some say is junk? If I don't run shocks how will it ride bagged? Thanks

I would love to feel what someone's idea of "rides fine without shocks" actually is. A factory sprung car with blown shocks rides like shit. You ever rode next to a car on the highway that bobs like a boat? Thats from lack of dampening, which is what shocks do. Air bags are springs and a properly set up suspension consists of springs to support the vehicle and shocks to dampen road imperfections.

That being said, if you want a vehicle to ride "as best" and "as safely" as possible then YES shocks are necessary.

Those cars have more than enough room to run a shock behind the lca without affecting turning radius. ART even makes bolt it frame mounts.

ive had front and rear shocks in since day one with the air ride, recently took the front ones out and the car (64 impala) does ride a lot better with the shocks, especially in these nyc streets. the only thing i like about no shocks is the extra inch of lock up and the bounciness while hitting switches, reminds me of the hydroz a bit. i have the ART strong arms up front with slam bags and am using the ART shock kit. after about 4 months the brackets bolted to the frame started bending down because the shocks were an inch too short i think, i bent them back and welded them to the frame and its perfect. whatever you do don't drive without ANY shocks at all, at least have rears or the car is just plain dangerous

Sizing the shocks properly won't limit your travel. First is to determine what overall diameter tire size you will run. That will determine the total suspension travel. Take a measurement between a fixed point on the frame and a point on the control arm. Cycle the Suapension and measure again. Get as long a shock as possible with these dimensions and mount a bracket off the top of the frame. Try to leave a little extra travel on either end if possible. If you are yanking on the shock every time you max out the front or if you fully compress the shock when aired out eventually something will break. In most cases the shock bushings will get beat up pretty bad.

See that is the problem Dean..... When you do installs for others, everything has to be spot on..... When its your own car, you did yourself, you can get away with hokey.
Shocks are a vital suspension component. no one would take them out with coils..... but air bags..no problem, "Rides fine" is a nice way of saying, "I cant weld".... or I cant figure it out"... "I cant be bothered".

No front shocks on my 63 it drives alright and locks up pretty high..but i got them on the rear...and was actually thinkin about trying some air shocks on the back so i can drive slammed and not wear out the completly deflated bags...i was thinkin put enough air in them until it raises the back abought half an inch...so the bags have a little stress off of them???? I dunno whatcha guys think?
