I don't know much about painting techniques. What are the recommended base coats for dark/light colours, or metal flake finish, or whatever. Any recommendations?

** I would recommend these 2 basecoats...

First off i say the PPG DBU or the DCU is a great color match & has good pigments for good coverage........

the DUpont line of ChromaBase is another good one... Good coverage & good color match.......

I have heard that Spies Hecker has really good stuff too......

Imron is good ....

But these are more expensive..... If you are looking to go cheaper i would suggest The Omni version of PPG..( base / clear )....Made by the same company- just not as good as a color match say for doing a fender or a door on a stock color..... I cant tell you what separates the DCU or the DBU from the omni line but im sure it has to do with some pigments & the base that is used ....
