...for my grand national and this was in the box. What is it?

those are the starter shims they go between the starter and engine block. to adjust the distance between the starter bendix to the flywheel.

x2....usually not needed but make sure to check the clearance without them installed and go from there.

you'll know if you need them.......your ride won't sound right or the starter will hang or not make good contact.
