Hello : )
Im planning on buying a 1966-1968 lincoln continental, and I have a few
questions. First of, here are a few pics of the car:

The one in the pics is all stock (except for the lowering of course).
I live in Poland, and I plan on importing the car from the usa when Im
visiting for christmas this year. Because of this I really need a car that
will run well and last a long time, without me having to buy parts every
other day. Where I live there are almost no parts available for American
cars and when one can actually find them they are really expensive, and
I don't have alot of money. :F
So I guess the question is, if I buy an old beater for 500$ thats been
sitting somewhere in a barn for 30 years, and just fix up the body, how
reliable will the engine be? What would I have to replace to make it so
that I could drive it every other day without worrying?
I want to do some modifications to the car when I buy it. Here is the final
look I'm going for:

Different car but its just so you get the idea.
Nice isn't it?
Now, can I lower the suspension like in the pic without making it really
un-comfortable? How much would doing so cost? And how much would
such a paint job cost? I can do most of the bodywork and preparing
myself, except for the actual painting.
One other thing that really worries me about this car is the gas mileage.
It has a 340 hp 7L V8 and someone told me it got around 8 mpg, which is
really horrible
In europe gas prices are so high that it would be a
deal-breaker for me. Is there a V8 engine with comparable hp that I could
swap out and that would give me better mileage? I don't know why in
Europe they can get 250 hp from a 1.6 L engine but in the usa they
usually have a much higher L/HP ratio...
Any advice would really be appreciated.
Thanks,
Gabriel.
P.S.
Sorry if I ask a lot of newbie questions
