REPORT FROM THE DAILY BULLETIN:
RIALTO
Boy, 12, struck, killed by hit-and-run driver Police arrested a Rialto man Monday on suspicion of felony hit and run after he allegedly struck and killed a 12-year-old boy riding his skateboard.
Matthew Cory Hudson, 21, called police about 3:30 a.m. Monday to report his car, a 2001 blue Chevrolet Camaro, stolen. Inconsistencies in his statement led police to arrest him in the fatal hit and run nearly eight hours earlier, Rialto police Lt. Randy DeAnda said.
"It's not uncommon for suspects involved in hit and run fatalities to later report their vehicles stolen," DeAnda said.
Twelve-year-old Jonathan Olagues was riding his skateboard alongside parked cars around 8:03 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Home Street when a speeding vehicle struck him and fled the scene. Jonathan suffered major head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene, DeAnda said.
The impact of the collision is believed to have caused the vehicle's license plate, found at the scene of the crime, to fall off the vehicle, DeAnda said.
Hudson's Camaro was recovered Monday afternoon near Devore Road and Nedlee Avenue in Devore. The vehicle sustained major front end damage consistent with the collision, DeAnda said.
Hudson was booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter. His bail has been set at $100,000, jail records show.
