Hey guys, just wanted to know if $3500 was a good price on getting a new engine put in the cut. I talked to my mechanic today and he said he wouldn't do a valve job (cars smoking a lot) on it cause it would make the bottom mess up being so old. Was thinking 'bout saying F-it and just throw a 350 in there. What do you guys think?

Did he say why the cars burning oil? Wouldn't do a valve job because it'll mess up what, piston rings?? Sounds a little off to me. I'll bet it's bad valve seals, possibly worn rings. Either way, i'd rebuild with performance parts or have it done. $3500 sounds high for a stock replacement engine. Brand new engine or re-man for $3500?

Mechanic hasn't had a chance to actually look at the car yet. I haven't had a chance to take it to him. Just called and asked him over the phone. And yes hat is including labor. I don't know why the car is burning oil. Thinking either head gasket or valves. I don't know a great deal about cars. If it could be anything else let me know.

if its burning oil its most likley the rings or valves.

3500 seems alot. I would price around and see if you can get it done cheaper.

I'm am gonna look around. I just called him cause he has done a lot of work for me and most of my family and I trust him. But I don't know if my dad ever paid him for the last job he did so that bridge might be burned. I am going to go up to the 350 though. Have a lil more power.
