Well, back in the day, I remember "Dubs" being short for "Wires"; Daytons in particular. I think around '91 or '92 some ignorant ass rapper refered to Dubs in a song and made it sound like he meant 20" wheels. After that all the new jacks thought of dubs as 20" and "Dubs" for wires just faded away.

1996 was the first time I seen 20's... They were on a Pontiac Grand Prix IASCA show car... Belonged to Femi Adgoke? I can't spell his name but I got pics to back it up...

Yeah, it seems like it was around '91 or '92; or maybe even as late as '94. Can't remember if it was while I was still in the military, or just after I had gotten out.

But I remember some rapper talking about it and it pissed me off 'cause anyone in the culture could tell he didn't know what the hell he was talking about. But of course, you know the masses "went wild." And the definition got all fucked up afterwards. Just like, believe it or not (here's one to PISS you off,) there are people out there that think Snoop and Dre started lowriding.

so does some 13 inch daytons[/b][/quote]
The big deal is that the "cool" rappers roll 20's not 13's. And you know the masses want to be like "cool rappers." Remember most people are followers, that's why it's a big deal.

Well, hey, if you want to take it back. I liked rap back in the late 70's early 80's when it was damn near ALL underground and in some places, thought of as illegal.

I wouldn't really call it a "fad" stage. Daytons were actually the ONLY good knock-off you could get for a while. Well, at least, they were the MAJOR ones. The runner ups at the time were Roadsters and McCleans. Then you had the cheap spokes which were almost always bolt-ons. In the late 80's-early 90's, mainstream rap weren't very much aware of Daytons yet. And even now, a lot of them think ANY wire wheel is a Dayton.
