Whats the process of gold plating...does the metal to be plated have to be chrome plated first??

Also i got a Grant gold plated chain steering wheel and the gold is starting to fade off:angry:...is that supposed to happen??

Any info will help thanks

nope they are FIRST nickel plated...........

but you can gold plate over chrome....some people get it twisted.....

my guess is it is the nickel that is showing not chrome.........BUT it can be retouched with gold..........

then if i were you i would just DUST some clear on the steering wheel because gold is REAL sensitive and DOESN'T like to be handled

always chrome your parts first, in general. see a lot of cars with pits, gold platers dont care. grants can be done, they have a special paint they apply (and tape it up as well) to do parts. gold is hard to maintain, maybe just chrome them, but if you want gold, make sure they know what they are doing and offer services to fix any pitting (copper and then chroming)
