Did I overlook the reason why the parts were defective, and more importantly why RE bought them, or has Resonant Engineering completely avoided that?

Resonant bought the motors from Onyx. Their agreement was that RE would remove the Onyx Mobile Audio symbol/name from the motors. I guess RE didn't do it (some of them, they removed and left on). RE slapped on the black motor to cover up the back of the motor either case. My RE HC and my friend's HC has the symbols kinda' burned off (barely visible, but you can tell a something used to be there). Another friend's HC does have the Onyx name and symbol on his motor. All of our black covers fell off over time.

I don't think the motors were defective technically. I guess they were claimed to be defective because it wasn't suitable for Onyx subwoofers.

Well, in that picture...that was an early '03 HC (with the spoke basket, but with the old style "boob" dust-cap). So even the new SE's and HC's might have 'em depending on how many motors RE bought and is using.

What was unusable to Onyx Mobile Audio due to tolerance problems works perfect in conjunction with the rest of the soft parts used in the production of a Resonant Engineering subwoofer. These are not used parts. They were purchased as brand new and work and look accordingly. ...RE

companies do it all the time.. ill still give them my money of course i buy xxx

I dont know why people would get upset to find out that their subs have a different companys motor structure?

Onyx Audio may have supplied the motor structure, but they still arent as reputable as RE is as a company. Ive never heard of anyone having problems with the SE or HC series with the exception of a few isolated incidences.

People buy designs from other comapnies all the time.

Hell, the MMATS 200 HC is actually a Dr. Crankenstein 1200D with MMATS logo's stamped on. As long as it works and does what they say it will do. . . then theres nothing to discuss.
