When I press the gas pedal on my 77 the fuel gauge starts to drop down, the more I press the gas the
lower It drops. When I let off the gas the gauge starts to come back up again.

Also when I get on the gas the car feels like its going to die and doesn't want to go. I feel like this is a problem with the carb not getting fuel. A plugged line or filter maybe.

Whats going on here? Any help or info would be appreciated thanks.

Edit: Car was sitting for a couple years. Had old gas I never bothered to drain that I ran through it.(I know dumb) Has a new avs thunder 1805 carb. Has new fuel pump with fuel gauge. The fuel pressure idles between 5 and 7 psi. and sometimes drops to around 2-3 psi don't know why though.

If u have new carb and pump u more than likely have a restriction in the line or the sump in the tank.if old gas sat in the tank it probably stop ed up the strainer in the tank.take the line loose before the pump and blow some compressed air thru it and see if it helps if u don't know how to drop the tank and check the strainer

Thanks I'll drop the tank and check the strainer tomorrow. Anyone have any idea why the fuel gauge drops while accelerating?

Well I dropped the gas tank today and pulled the sending unit fuel sock looked pretty decent and wasn't plugged so I'm just going to replace the whole sending unit and see if that helps. I'll post the results when done.
Edit: wasn't getting fuel pressure because of cracked dry rotted fuel lines in the rear replacing the sending unit to try and fix the fuel gauge problem.

I think its more to it than that if I have a full tank and I'm accelerating it will drop to completely empty the moment I let off the gas it will rise. Even on the good streets lol. It does it consistently and the more I accelerate the more it drops.
