Nope, you don't have to take the column off. Just take the 2 little screw/bolts off the back of the horn cover, then remove the 1 nut that holds the actual steering wheel to the column. If your lucky, it will pull off, but most of the time you'll need a steering wheel puller(free rental at autozone or they run $10-15).
