i was watching some machinery mover show last night and they were using vegtable oil in their hydraulic setups... never heard of that? has it ever been used in our case? if so what was the outcome?

just depends on where you're at...if you live in a cold area then hydraulic fluid is probably better

the worst thing about hydro fluid is that it's a little harder to wipe off of yourself if something blows, like a hose or fitting... :(

Which is exactly the problem. It causes premature wear of the metal in the gears in pumps like we use... especially aluminum.
