I am going to be purchasing a 1963 ss, but the tranny is shot, I just bought a tranny from my homie it came out of his 64ss, my question is the shifters are different on the 63's it goes from park, reverse to the left and then neutral 1st and 2nd, on a 64 impala its straight back p,r,n,1st then 2nd
What will I have to do if anything to make the tranny out of a 64 work on the 63???

Thanks fellas

Yup
Damn, you learn something new every day. I mean, I know Powerglides are built all the time for drag racing, but stock they're slush boxes. I'm surprised that they came in Super Sports. Oh well. Good luck!

SS is actually just a trim package, not performance. Some had straight sixs too ;)

don't need a conversion kit the linkage SHOULD be the same the only difference is the shifter that is bolted to the floor

No doubt. Most of the SSes I've been exposed to were 327s or 409s, but they were mostly 4-speed cars. If they were autos, I guess I didn't pay much attention to which transmission.

i had to aurgue with a dude a few months back, we were talking about my old hard top, and he asked if it was a SS and i said no, he was like it pretty much worthless cuz it has a small motor, i informed him that SS was a trim package for that year, but some people just wont listen :uh:

Thats what happins when people assue things instead of doing the research. I run into those types all the time.
