[attachmentid=256883]Sup fellas, a newbie here, got a 86 Caprice and need more sound up front. Already has 4x6's in dash, 6x9's in back. Would this enclosure be hard 2 make? Would it sound like shit? Somebody suggested I do something fiberglass but Im kinda restricted on time. I dont really wanna put speakers in the doors. Any feedback would be great.

Three pieces of wood, some bracing, cut some holes and cover it? :dunno:

i just did soething simiiliar bro, its really not that hard. what i did was go to a art store and bought some foam or you could use card board , and some pins a lil glue and i made a template on how i wanted my shit to look . then transfered the templates to wood set them up so the sides were excact then i cut them out and used a staple gun to put it together really easy heres a pic of mine

i wanted to do speakers first but i realized that at that angle there not goin to sound to good so i knew i needed some cup holders and something to hold dvds and my remote for my stereo. its all in your aplication i guess

The problem with doing that is the speakers don't face you. That means you only hear correctly one side, and you have to refeverse right and left for that to even work right....

You will HAVE ZERO SOUND STAGE. This would be cool if CD's where in mono , but they are not.... A subwoofers location is meaningless so long as none of the frequencies bouncing around (db, air pressure from the sub) cancle eachother out, but this only works under about 80hz.

The sound stage is you know, give you the feeling that the band is right infront of you, you can hear the different insterments, and in many recordings they are relative to right or left, like the band is on your hood or computer screen.

I dunno how important music is to you, but I love it..... When you hack it up it's just not the same, if you've been to a real concert, you want that sound stage, nothings cooler then the concert, and a sound stage is what you need to help recreate that experience.
BigSexy, good looking out family!! Thanks for the info Castaway, you made some good points I hadnt even thought of. Just trying 2 figure out ways 2 improve my sound, these 4x6's are killing me and I dont think Im crafty enough to fiberglass anything.
Q-logic makes kick panel adapters, probably not for your car, but you could check.

The doors are a capable place, but you have to check with the window, a lot of windows will interphere with the install of a speaker depending on depth and how far it rolls into the door. You can use a small ring to space the speaker out of the door a little, but to much looks bad and you'll just end up kicking it or some thing.

If you want a small example of sound stage, take some computer speakers or some thing, and just point them directly at your temples, prop them up etc.... Crank up the volume, listen to a CD (not an mp3) and then point them down or away or some thing, even with just some Altec Lansing $30 ****** beater speakers you can notice it (I've done it out of curiosity, excuse the nick name they have, I know it's awful haha).

Yeah I already checked and Q-logic doesnt make kick panel adapters for an 86 Caprice unfortunately. I'll check on the window depth also but I got a bad feeling about that one.
fuck that dont cut into your doors that shit looks crappy if you want to improve your sound and you dont got the necessary skills to fiberglass something (like me) then be creative, maybe u can make a center console and angle the speakers towards the front. put some tweets in yuor a pillars or if your really want your kick panels done. find someone that will do em up for you for cheap. i had one guy make my boy a amp stand for his trunk sanded down and painted for like 80 bucks fuck cutting into door panels thats just garbage. i seen people cut into there door panels and the only placement there was , was right in front of the seat so when the door was closed then the seat was blocking the speaker its a bad idea ;)
If you do a poor job on the doors yeah it looks like ass..... What's wrong with a nice oak ring and a speaker, no visible cutting or any sort of deformety at all? Well there is nothing wrong with that! It's just it takes some skill....

You could probably learn to fiberglass almost as easy is the truth. However if you really didn't want any thing in the kicks, you could go with the door, some people make fiberglass enclosures in the door, they stick out a little, but they are nice and smooth when painted.
Lol, Bigsexy, u crazy homey!! My brother said the same shit, dont cut into the doors. Im like fuck it, Ima try the center console on some experimental shit and look 2 see if I can find somebody 2 do kick panels. I know of a few shops here in Philly but some of em beat u in the head when it comes 2 price. I'll have 2 look around.

do you know how fucked up that front stage must sound...he has the midbass drivers firing towards the leg of the passenger and the driver, and he has the tweeters firing towarsd the rear of the car instead of towards the driver and passenger... if you do build something similar to that, dont use that picture as your blueprint because your sound is gonna be fucked up just like his...

Ghetto
in my causines 86 caprice he used some small plastic 3 way enclosiers for a truck and mounted them on each side of the dash.......loocks pretty good and the sound is amazing because the speakers are aimed straighte at your head with no legs or anything blocking the path...

I'm not sure on the size and brand of the the little enclosers but they are realy small and the cotour fit the windshield perfect he got em from autozone for $12 and has them along with some pioneer 6x9's pushing off a punch 100w amp
Sounds hot D-Boy, can u find out the size and brand?
kinda similar to what d boy said, but i was thinking maybe you could make little tweeter pods with like a 3.5-4 inch tweeters in them and mount them on your dash? i dont know how good it would look but im sure you'll figure out somethin, actually now that i think about it their was some one on here a long time ago that made them outta fiberglass and did a step by step on it
