I was thinking of attaching a plate under my crossmember about 1/4" steel with a hole for the oil drain plug and a cutout to take out the oil filter. Also make it bolt onto and make it removable for repairs. the plate would serve as to not scrape my oil pan and bust it.

any thoughts???

I had to put a skid plate on my '89 Cougar years ago after cracking the oil pan. Damn thing is aluminum and you need to partially remove the engine to replace it. Never thought it would cost over $600 to replace an oil pan. Oh well, that's history now. Yeah, build a skidplate if you need one. You won't regret it... especially the first time you drive down that street that hasn't been re-asphaulted yet and you see that manhole cover sticking about 3 inches above street level just a secong too late. Afterwards I noticed that the oil pan is the lowest point on many cars.
