I have an 87 cutlass supreme the engine squeals very loud when I crank it up with my foot on the gas and when I hit the gas to take off we tightened up a few belts but that hasnt fixed the problem any suggestions

The belts are new and my dad thinks it might be the air compressor because the air conditioner doesnt work im not sure if its the engine squealing

If your sure its not the belts.......then it possibly is the alternator too!!! Can you hear where it is coming from? Atleast the general direction it is in.

remove the belts one by one, see when the squealing stops..
then determine from there if it is indeed one of the accessories

we sprayed the belts down and it stopped

tighten up belt tensioner or get a new belt.

if u sprayed it with water thats the ghetto way to fix it,until it dries..my monte carlo only does it when it's cold as balls outside and when it rains,just tighten up all the belts..and then check everything else

the pulleys may have been polished by the belt over the years and has lost its grip on the belt
