i have a problem
i went to my friends house and when i left his house, my car wouldn't start. now i know that my starter isn't shot becasue my neighbor works on cars and he said that it would show ware n tear and not just die out.
my alternator is brand new
when i turn my key, the first turn is for the gear and drive
the second turn is the power and ish. and since i had my car when ever i made the second turn there was this ticking for like 15 seconds. my car would allways start tho with no problems

the third turn is to turn the car on and there is no action. nothing as all.
all the power fuctions work. my battery is ok and i tried to jump but that didnt' help
the only thing i could think of is the ignition cylinder.

any body have any ideas.
thx alot.

easy test...

turn your lights on and turn the key

if the lights dim its the batt

if the light dont dim and it wont crank its the starter

the ticking you refer to is the electric metering rods in the carb...i really hate those things

the lights did dim when i turned the key.
there was no cranking. but i really dont think theres an electrical fault in the starter.
the batter is fine

any body else have suggestions?

Did your lights dim alittle or alot?

Could be the battery or a bad ground.

you can take the batt to a-zone to have them test it if you dont a have multimeter...the next step i would do is check 4 corrosion on the starter and batt

I might be an idiot, but I'd check the neutral safety switch..

try moving the gear shifter around a few times, and try starting it in neutral instead of park

Tap the starter with a hammer a few times while someone is trying to start the car.

The stater is all the way in the front bottom of the engine. It is usually silver and will have a red cable going to it.

almost....

its on the passenger side of the car, at the bottom rear of the motor...
it looks like a hydraulic pump motor hanging off of your engine, and will have the positive battery cable running to it

well, its kinda dangerous... but....

put the car in park and put the e-brake on..
get under the car (unless you can reach it from the top), and, using a screwdriver or something, jump the big terminal to the smaller terminal... I dont know which of the 2 smaller ones, try them both, it wont hurt anything..
That will eliminate any wires and switches in the circuit..
If it cranks like that, then it's not the starter

i tried that. my neighbor told me that too.
i just tried it and after a few trys i saw some small sparks
then a big set of sparks shot in my face.
it didn't start tho.
when the big set of sparks shot in my face tho, the ticking started all over again.
i dont now why.
i dont know what to do next.

did you actually have your battery load tested?

smack the starter with a hammer and have somebody crank it...

the reason you got a bunch of sparks in the face is cuz the screwdriver grounded out on something
