Is my Oldsmobile 1967 425ci V8 (310bhp Super Rocket, 4 barrel, high compression) engine the same as any of the more popular GM V8s, or did Oldsmobile make their own engines? Is mine classed as a big block or something?

Just wondering, in case I wanted to do any tuning or repairs on it. Not many of these cars over here in England  .

Thanks.

**** I will buy that engine off you & give you another one for trade...........You CANNOT put anything but olds parts on it... You can however put 455 Heads & intake on it with minor work done......They are considered by some as big blocks because they can interchange parts from a 455 to a 350 with little work.... They have the extra wide intakes ...unlike a skinny ass chevy......... Oldmobiles kicked ass BIGTIME in the muscle car days... So did the Buicks .... You have a factory Gold engine right ?? Some came in blue a well but those are lower horse engines...... What are the head castings????

Thanks for your reply :cheesy: .

My engine number is R16373 (the car is 1967). The heads are cast iron and the workshop manual shows it is a red coloured engine. As mentioned it is the high compression Super Rocket engine, rated at 310bhp, and has the optional 4-barrel carburettor. The engine number checks out with everything in the workshop manual, so I'm certain that it is all original with regard to its specification.

buick, olds, and pontiac are different motors than chevy..

kinda stupid

your motor should be red

and yes, a 425 is a big block motor, along with the 400 and the 455

you can use the rotating assembly from a 455 and make yours a 455

I'm not sure that it would be the same engine, but any V8 has got to be good - especially when you live in England and don't hear them all the time!

I think that engine outputs suffered a lot after about 1972 due to the fuel crisis, so, according to what I have read, it is worth finding out the actual year of production for any engine you might be looking at, because you might get a lower output one than you were expecting :0.
