I have a guy in Canada do my stuff, but his turnaround kinda sucks. I don't refer people to him anymore because then he gets overloaded.

Mad's been looking into starting up plating but dont know if he can count on anyone from here for bussiness or not from stuff that's happened in the past.
that is pretty much the only thing holding him back on it since the setup is going to cost a little over 1k with all the stuff to do it.

if he does do it he's probably going to be doing gold as well too.
and his prices will be cheaper and ALOT faster than where most of you guys have been going.
he said one of you guys was charged $8 to chrome 2 bumpers and it took like 3-4 weeks or more.

any feedback on this will be helpful.
Thanks!

I'm happy with my plater, we're friends and his work is second to none, puts Chrometech to shame. The cheapest I ever got was $40 for 2 12"x 12" racks. The chrome eventually yellowed and wasn't very good, plus some of my parts were broken. JC's Finique Chrome had good work, but his turnaround got worse and worse and he eventually just quit. My plater takes a long time because he does it all himself, from racking them, laquering them, and chroming them. His machine does 6x9 racks and cost $140,000 Canadian, used. Chrometech doesn't even do the chroming, he racks them up and sends them somewhere. These guys aren't getting rich off it either, mine is a part time nurse, and Chrome Tech sells old kits for big money. If Mad thinks he has the time and room to do quality work, go for it. Another player won't hurt, but I just want to make sure he knows what he's getting into

one of his biggest concerns is just like everything else he's dumped money into to help guys out on hereand then got screwed on it.

like when everybody was having a fit over those little motors everybody needed them but nobody had them. the bugged and bugged him about getting them so he took money out of his pocket and ordered a bunch. then when the time came to sell them all of a sudden everybody was broke. then every a-hole and their brother came out of the woodwork selling them and cut-throating the prices. yeah, he sold a bunch but also has a couple hundred of them sitting in his back room now doing nobody a bit of good.
same with the spinner wheels and anything else that he's tried to help people out with here.

that's one thing wasting 100-200 bux on that stuff for nothing but when we're talking $1100 or more thats a whole nother deal there.
you're a working man i'm sure you can understand that.

as far as turn around time goes, he's been talking about maybe chroming alot of the most common stuff in advance and have it sitting ready and waiting wrapped in protective plastic. and do kind of a core exchange thing like when you go to autozone and but a new starter or something.
and the stuff people would send in to do like that would of course have to be new usable parts.
but still do the custom stuff like if you had something you scratchbuilt or something.

sorry for getting off topic on your post but it was heading this way already. lol

yeah, Johnny (JC) was selling complete chrome kits mostly and "core" kits. I think that's a market that has been sort of untapped. All platers I know it's a two way thing, you send something in, they send something back. Most usually do old kit parts too. The lowrider market is growing, but unfortunately, we're also a bunch of broke ass tightwads. A big turnoff is shipping.

I dunno, if Mad wants to start plating plastic, he will need to look beyond this board for business for sure.

i'm sure he was referring to the bumpers he got from me...well i didn't pay no 8 bucks that's for damn sure, but i did tell him that is what chrometech charges (4 bucks per bumper). Plus another 7.95 per standard order for shipping. I get all my stuff done locally, but it is a pretty long wait, just cuz they do a shitload of work and usually put mine aside for awhile.

ya got that right lol

i dont know about that, shipping on something like that is usually $.99 - $1.98
plus another .50 - $1.00 for the mailing pack. ;)

He's got his fingers in other areas besides here trust me ;)

and actually he's also been seriously considering opening a new model forum for all types of autos divided into classifications to make things easier. and using the same software system as here.
does this spark an interest to you? :)
