I'VE DONE 4 12'S, 2 12'S ,2 15'S ECT.. I AM PLANNING ON A KICKER L7 15" IN A VENTED BOX 3.5 - 4 CUBIC FT GOING IN AN EXPEDITION. IM GOING FOR 80% SPL 20% SQ. I WANNA BE REALLY LOUD. IM GIVING THE L7 1200 WATTS RMS. ITS GOING IN AN EXPEDITION 99. DO YOU THINK 2 15'S IN A SMALLER VENTED BOX WILL BE MUCH LOUDER THAN THE 1 15"? IF I WAS TO DO 2 15'S IT WILL BE 2.5 CUBES EACH. BUT I REALLY WANT TO TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT, JUST ONE 15". WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK. THANKS

PS. DO YOU THINK I CAN HIT 150 DB WITH THIS SETUP? I KNOW ITS ALL ABOUT THE INSTALL BUT GIVE OR TAKE, WHAT DO YOU THINK

i've heard the Solo-X is primarily SPL and that in its perfect enclosure and power it'll hit in the 150s.

i also saw a 18" DD sub hit a 149 once.

oh and i also saw an 18" XXX hit 144 on 400W.

that's extremely good, since the sub's RMS is at like 2000W and it hit a 144 on only 400W

You'll probably get mid-140's dB's on the 2003 meters.

5.5 WOULDN'T I BE LOSING ALL SQ? I WANT TO KEEP IT SOUNDING OK. HOW ABOUT 4.5 - 5 CUBES
Our "sq" box for our l7 15" was 5.5 cubes on the dot....

It still craved more room....

You do know that it takes a SIX CUBIC FOOT SEALED ENCLOSURE to yeild a .707 qtc? (in other words, yah, it likes huge boxes ;))

Qtc - value for the damping provided for a driver in a sealed enclosure. Denotes the enclosures ability to control the driver response at resonance. Qtc = 0.707 is the optimum value for sealed enclosures, providing flattest response and highest SPL for deep bass extension. Enclosures for this value are often rather large. Lower Qtc can give even better transient response, down to a Qtc of 0.577 for the best damping and transients, but the enclosure is usually huge and SPL's are down. A Qtc of 1.0 is a compromise between deep bass and transient response vs. smaller sized enclosure. Larger subs can go with an even higher Qtc, as their resonant frequency is often very low, but Qtc's above 1.5 can begin to sound very muddled and boomy, and sacrifice deep bass extension and transient response for enhanced mid-bass peaks (louder).

yeah i listened to my friend's new system yesterday. he took out the back seat of his truck, and he's got two 15" L5s sitting back there, running (both of them) off a 1000W Memphis amp. those things hit TOO hard

true, but usually it will hit pretty high.

and besides, who gives a fuck about how it hits on a mic. it's how good it sounds to you that matters, unless you're going plain competition

Most of those "loud systems" that I hear usually meter at around the low-high 140 dB's range. I have seen a couple meter at the low-150 range...but that's about it.

And the reason I point out the "metering" topic is because people often confuse the two and expect to both hit extremely hard and low as well as meter high on the mics'.

OK, but any two 15" L5s in their perfect enclosure, in the backseat of a truck, that hit so hard that the TAILGATE rattles, and you can FEEL the bass in your car with the windows closed when you're 5 cars away... it's powerful, and even if it doesn't hit high on the mics (which it will anyway) who the hell cares... it's what it sounds like that matters, i'm sure you'll agree  :)
