I have a 59 impala with a 348 engine in it but the transmission has been changed I am sure to a th350. My first question is since it's already not original because the transmission do you think I should change the engine over to a 350 small block? The reason I'm asking is I have one that someone went through runs good and there are a lot of different options and add ons to buy for these engines right over the counter. My second question is what do you think my 348 is worth and it's a runner? Alot of people told me to leave it in there because it will be worth more and all that but I don't really like the look of the 348 personally. I've also heard others tell me and not referring to the engine just other things on the car that it's my car and do wha I want with it so tell me what you think.

get the 350 and send me the 348, your right itll look better in my impala.

naw seriously tho, if it were mine id keep that 348, 350s are a dime a dozen, keep it og. transmission dont matter so much you dont see it, the visual impact of dressed 348 will have a bigger impact than a 350, thats my opinion anyway. offenhuaser makes some cool ass valve covers for that 348 so does moon

thanks guys for your input anybody else and you guys are swaying me to keep it og. Does anybody make nice intakes for em?

my 2 cents....

if its a daily, swap it for the 350. its gonna be easier and cheaper to find parts for the 350 if/when something breaks.

if its a garage/show/weekend whip...then keep it OG. then i would find the OG trans to put back in it and anything else that can go back to original. it will keep its value better if its #'s matching.


thats my take on it...for what its worth :)

its a 59 impala 2dr hardtop so of corse it isn't a daily so I'm gonna keep it og but I bet a powerglide transmission is hard to find are they expensive?

not hella hard to find, not extremely expensive either, in the past year, I've seen at least 5 PG's on Craigslist, all $200 and under, most could probably use a rebuild...

I have the stock intake on it and it seems an edelbrock carb will bolt onto it but it's too low and might need a spacer does anybody know if thats correct or does it just seem to bolt up but will leak air?

look at the price of those things but you have to pay to play and there nice not just some cheapy chrome ones you know

is that a quadrajet or is it a carter carb on there? if its a carter a edelbrock will fit with no problems, no spacer needed. try this site

it's not a quadrajet because the carb will sit on it and the bolts line up it just seems a little low and might hit the intake maybe if I buy a fat gasket that will be enough clearence..

keep in mind , the og trans should be a cast iron powerglide, harder to find.

on a side note fellas I put the edelbrock carb on it and bolted right up runs a lot better thanks for the info guys keep it coming
