on a prestolite plus there are 2 posts... one is for a ground... so why is there an insulator on it???

otherwise when the hot is connected youd have metal to metal contact, which would sent current thru it and into the ground, and visa versa... this way with the insulator on there power only goes to the hot post, and the motor is grounded on its ground post, so theres no contact between the posts and the casing.. otherwise it would be like conntecting the hot and ground together using the casing.

you're a smart man mr. kingfish
thanks homie, that makes perfect sense now...
lol.. well it only would stand to reason that u have insulators on both sides of the casing.. inside too so that the connection between the 2 posts dont conduct on the casing hehe..

do these motors have a ball-bearing end or is it just the bushing?

yes there is a bearing on the end... no bushing.

so Kingfish, on a chrome saco or CCE for instance, when I add a ground stud, should i worry about insulating it? I'm confused

the positive post on the motor still have the insulator on it on single post motors...alteast the ones ive used have..... on the prestolite plus motors they have the stud already there so they just do what they did on the postive post...

now im assuming this since it makes sense to me that if u connect a postive cable and u have nothing seperating that connection between the post and the casing youd have voltage running thru the casing and block and everything else it comes into contact with...I COULD BE WRONG ABOUT THIS NOW AS TO WHY THERES THE INSULATOR but it makes sense to me in my head lol

insulators are used to stop the conduction of electricity...so if ur putting insulating washers on something, then it would seam ur tryin to prevent the conduction of electricity to somethig else.....

I've never tried an old school plus. in fact its the only common motor I've never had. maybe i should grab one to mess with
I've had god luck with the 2 I have owned...I was in the market for a newmotor to put on my piston pump and the saco pro motors were out of stock and it was mentioned to me that the prestolite plus motor has a high torque 2nd to the saco pro
