Just wondering how much value it would add to the car. I have a coupe with a rebuilt 4100 with 0 miles. But it needs to be dialed in, timing set, or whatever. doesnt run perfect but nothin major. And i have a 92' with a 5.0 with 130,xxx miles, runs and drives perfect.

Just looking for some opinions, if it had a 5.7 i would probably do it without hesitation.

Did you get the 4100 rebuilt yourself or you bought the car with the 4100 rebuilt in it?

bought it already done, im am probably going to have that motor looked over before i do anything. But you can tell its rebuilt, all the seals are new and its been painted. But they had some wires crossed when they reinstalled the motor so they never got it running. Therefore the timing has never been set, and who knows what else it may need. It does fire right up though.

I would put that 90's frame under the Coupe bro...the 4100 can't be compared to that 5.7 even if it has been rebuilt or cleaned up and it would probably be a more interesting car to buy for a potential buyer...I know I would pay more for a 5.7 in a Coupe than a 4100...I don't trust those 4100...I had one iun my Coupe and I got a 305 put in there instead...Just my humble opinion bro... :)

No, it has a 5.0. Like i said IF it had the 5.7 then i wouldnt have any doubts. But it has the 5.0 with over 130,xxx miles. And i had another one before with less miles and it smoked like a train. So im not wanting to put in the 5.0 if its likely to give out soon.

just go to pulla- part get a 350 for 136 bucks and rebuild it, if it even needs it, you might get lucky and find one thats not locked up and just needs a tune up! ;) ! Thats what I plan to do!

sorry Doe, I just reread your post again...My bad :( ....Then I think I would stick with the 4100 in that case...Although I don't really like the 4100, yours is rebuilt and if it has 0 miles on it and really rebuilt, I would stick with it especially if you had bad experiences with a 5.0...I would only replace a rebuilt 4100 by a 5.7 or Lt1, 368, 350 or a 305...

thats the same way i feal, but i plan to keep the car a long time. So if it will be worth it to have the newer drivetrain i will do it.

I already have a good 93 350 motor and trans, but it needs rebuilt. So i am either going to use the 4100 or 307 since both are good. I just want it to run good and add a little chrome. Im not looking to go full custom under the hood like you.

Your gonna end up doing it anyway bro, Especially if your gonna keep it for a while! Im just being practical Doe! What will happen is that you will build the car nicer than you anticapatied and then want to chrome the shit out of the engine for brownie points to blend it in with the rest of the hard work!! :cheesy:

I would not do the frame swap with the 5.0. it is not worth it. With the 5.7 yes!
like i said before, i have a 93'' drivetrain also. I would assume it would be about the same as a 92 5.7. Maybe i will swap frames and replace the 5.0 with the 93' 5.7 later on down the road.

a 92 fleetwood with a 5.0 would be a chevy TBI 305, not the 307. is it throttle body or carb? a 90 with a 5.0 would be an olds 307 with a carb.

the 305 chevy TBI motor would be a good swap, you could easilly upgrade it to a 5.7, right??

ok i guess you are right. I just pulled the car off the trailer havent even looked under the hood, lol. The other one i had was a 90 with the 307 thats why i was thinking this was the same.

Yea it would be easy to change to the 5.7. I am thinking i will just use the 5.0 and build up a new 5.7 to put in later once the car is finished. At least that way the new chasis will be in and i will be able to paint the belly up right.

Well i think its pretty much a done deal now that i know its a 305 F.I. instead of a 307. The 305 has the same amount of horespower as the 350 so i think it will be better than the 4100. And if not i will rebuild my 5.7 and drop it in later.

So if anyone has done this before and has any tips let me know! Swapping it out wont be a problem i just dont want to skip any wiring out of the 92 that i may need.

thats whats up! the 90 frame has antilock brakes & more comp gadgets under the hood i can tell look more modern i ve done it 2 a 2dr fwb & getting ready for it on a lecab so hell ya go for it! & go for the 5.7 thats all i f**k with un less its a 368 most manifilds leak on the exhaust so change the gasket & its great! or a heavy as 425 but it got stab!owned on 4100 that smoked the tyres & sold it but. all the other 5 or 6 i had knocked gut less or missed like crazy
