Some won't let you use your own material unless they can see it first. I wouldn't upholster someone's car in a material that I knew wouldn't stand up to the elements or last very long. Someone is always finding themselves a good deal in fabric but often times it turns out the fabric isn't very good. The upholster then gets the blame when it wears out or fades quickly. It's the upholster's rep on the line.
not to drag ole boy's thread off topic, but how many yards of swirl velvet would it take to do the seats, doorpanels, dash, inside of the tail gate, and the carpet only behind the rear seat?
Maybe this will help. Most upholstery fabric is 54 inches wide.
