Or a new trick for the new gen.

You wire a forklift double or single contactor In the normally closed position.

You install a on off toggle in your switch box

When you place the switch in the off position.
It powers up the contactor and removes the ground cables. Just remember to ground the contactor seperate!

I'm going to use it on my taurus setup

Also the taurus will charge the batterys as I drive

That will be a whole new topic

Absolutely forklift contactors are built to run huge power. continuous duty But the contact is in the off position all the time. until you have problems like a burning motor .

Use forklift contactors insted if solenoids. That old shit should have been fazed out years ago.

I would still run a manual disconnect in conjuction with any electrical shut off. I don't trust any eletrical part that much. It's like getting under a car that is on a jack without using jack stands.

It will be a faster turn off than, having to pull over pop the trunk and disconnect. or better than having one under the seat, cause you can be far away with your box.

A FRIEND AND I WERE RECENTLY TALKING ABOUT THIS, I DONT REALLY LIKE THE QUICK DISCONECTS, ESPECIALLY HANGING OUT OF THE TRUNK. HE MENTIONED THE CONTACTORS AND GAVE ME A GRAINGER CATALOGUE TO LOOK THROUGH, LOTS IN THERE BUT NOT REALLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR AS FAR AS TERMINAL SIZES AND POWER RANGE, WHERE WOULD BE A GOOD PLACE TO FIND ONE FOR OUR NEEDS.

smh total source You can buy contacts that can handle huge power. The contactors themselves are replaceable. The good heavy duty ones are for electric driven forklift trucks. The forward and reverse direction switch ones have normally open and closed double poles :)

I have some Ill send pics later

I didnt get my new setup yet, but I can post pics of some contactors i have.

I'm going to be running 2.

one contactor is going to charge 1 battery IN THE TRUNK of the car, and when actuated, Its going to take the 12 volts from the cars battery AND CONNECT IT TO THE NEGITIVE ON THE TRUNK BATTERY, as this happens the other contactor swaps the positive getting charged in the trunk to the pump motor.

+ 4 plugging diodes

2 coil resistors with capacitors

A fuse at the auto battery temp breaker

Soon soon soon

I'd be more than happy to start thread about my spring build

Can't wait!

bUT AS THIS IS HAPPENING THE OTHER

ANY PICTURES ?
I got to rebuild 8 contactors today ! guess what heres the pics

This group of 4 are N.O N.C so when there off they can charge batterys, And when there energized they can provide power and ground to your pump( hint safety feature.

Or when there off they could provide ground and power to 2 banks of batterys useing 1 contactor!

rebuildable, 2 way 2 pole silver contactors

the first 2 contactors are bussed together making it 8 controls
Look inside!

You can see the upper and lower contacts

Ok its obvious what needs to be replaced!

These contactors can handle 500 AMPS welding current

Now the one that the lowrider would be interested in

The monster 800 amp contactor that is double throw.

would handle a shit load of batterys and handle power and ground to your motor.

rebuild time!
You take the canter nut off,
Take the 4 screws out of each corner

Here the old ones and the new ones .

Rebuild took less than 5 minutes! These contacts are 15 years old

1 more shot of the 8 contactor rebuild

All finished :)
This setup controls 12 differant functions

I will have some for sale by summer, and rebuild kits

1 more thing

I'm useing the first contactor I showed for my spring project.

Make a hell of a clean setup, bullet proof for a daily driver, and for a hopper. You'll be blowing up motors before these babys.

;)

1 of the big contacts can amaze you. The contacts are sterling silver

They close so fast that It would break you finger if you stuck it in there LOL

I can't wait to see them in the lowrider scene.

You can set them up so If 1 contact starts to get weak,, Hit a switch on your switch box and use another one.

I like the fact that you can have an on off switch quick disconnect in you switchbox that cant fail.

100% duty cyle

I'll get you prices for the huge ones I can get. There not available for the public.

But on a lighter note there is smaller allbright contactors that are! Find them at this link I found for you.

http://store.kta-ev.com/contactorsandbatte...ngswitches.aspx

I'm not trying to make any money off of this. Just trying to help With the hydro revolution.

Note those allbrights can only handle 1000 amps for 60 seconds.

There a much cheaper contactor.

They have a greater fail rate than any other brand.

Not saying there junk at all. Just had to deal with some lemons over the years
