DEPENDS ON THE APPLICATION. FOR FILLING IN HOLES 22 GAUGE IS FINE, BUT FOR STRUCTURAL PLACES LIKE NEW FIREWALLS, AND HOLLYWOOD TOP ROOF LINES 18-16 GAUGE IS NICE, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE ONE LONG PIECE, IT STAYS STRAIGHTER THAN THINNER METAL.

my rule of thumb is that if its being used behind the rear axle... 1/8"

in front of the axle.. 22 gauge
