i would sandblast it bro---------no way you are doing it by hand---now you said "flakey" i hope it isn't eating up the metal---if so---replace it bro

sandblast it, only way to get rusted meatl back to good metal

is it on your driver? or a car that your fixin up?? If its on your driver then i would just use a good ole wire brush extension for a drill, if not, take it to a company that does sandblasting.....or if its not that bad of rusting, then get it glass blasted......... ;) ;) ;)

i know this is a dumb question... but how do you sand blast the frame? ive only seen cabinet sand blasters... and obviously a frame isnt going to fit in one of those.
you have to take the entire car apart, engine pulled, body removed, everything till you are down to the frame, than take it to a blasting shop and they have outside blasters that will blast it fo you
