i tried this before with a set of kicker comps and rockford comps and no one replied, so i decided to go at it one more time... i am curious of which one would outperform the other... in my opinion, the kicker cvr's are hard hitting, nice sound subs, the type-r's are cool too...

disregarding the price tag on both sides, which one would you guys think would outperform the other in (a) sound quality, (b) spl, © which has the best combination of sq & spl

so here's a break down

05kicker cvr 15"

15" sub with dual 2-ohm voice coils

injection-molded polymineral cone

double-stitched, foam-ribbed Santoprene rubber surround

Power Handling Watts, Peak (RMS) - 1000 (500)

Sensitivity [SPLo], dB @ 1W, 1m - 89.1

Effective Frequency Range, Hz - 25-500

Equivalent Volume [Vas], ft3 (L) - 9.23 (261.45)

Moving Mass [Mms], oz (g) - 8.74 (247.8)

Magnet Weight, oz (kg) - 114.92 (3.258)

Alpine SWR1521D - Alpine 15" Type R

Kevlarᆴ-infused pulp cone

1-1/4" Santoprene rubber surround

Dual 2-ohm voic coils

Frequency response 22-1,000 Hz

Power range 200-500 watts RMS (250 watts RMS per coil)

Peak power handling 1,500 watts

Sensitivity 89 dB

Top-mount depth 8-3/4"

Sealed box volume: 1.3-2.5 cubic feet

Ported box volume: 1.5-3.0 cubic feet

why and in what category?

sealed or ported?

Sealed, they are just clean, hard hitting subs, no overhang, no boominess, just quick and accurate, gotta have the right stuff to run them, but if you get it right, you will not be disappointed.

Type R's have better transient response, low end extension, less distortion at high volumes, higher spl potential (daily applications and competition).

so your talking about the old type r's..not the new ones?

shit, i just realized that those arent the 05 type-r's

in that case, i wouldnt have put the CVR 15" against it in a debate, i wanted to match RMS wattage and sensitivity atleast...the 05type-r would outporform the cvr in all category's...

so with this in mind, lets compare the 05 type-r against the 05 Lz

RMS Power Range : 75-750 Watts
Peak Power Handling: 2000 Watts
Impedance: Dual 4 Ohm
15" component subwoofer
Kevlar-reinforced pulp cone
Cast aluminum frame with perimeter venting
Dual 4-ohm voice coils
Low Frequency response: 22 Hz
High Frequency Response: 1000 Hz
Sensitivity: 89 dB

KICKER L5 15"

NEW 2005 range L5 subwoofer
Stamped-steel basket
T-shaped top plate
15" subwoofer with SoloKon aluminum-treated composite cone
Santoprene rubber surround
Extra-long dual 2-ohm voice coils for wiring flexibility
Frequency response: 18-100 Hz
Power range: 100-750 watts RMS (375 watts per coil)
Peak power handling: 1500 watts
Sensitivity: 88.8 dB
Top-mount depth: 8-1/2"
Sealed box volume 1.0-2.5 cubic feet
Ported box volume: 2.5-4.25 cubic feet
