Anyone have any reccommendations, brands, where to buy? Is it a safe item to buy used like off craigslist or something? thanks.

Also, any particular style?

I would not buy used unless it is a name brand that can be recalibrated. Since you never know how many times it has been dropped. :0

So, you need 1 wrench per socket size or are the sockets interchangable on one wrench? I'm confused.
no they come 3/8" or 1/2" and you put a normal socket on them

ahhh. ok. got it. Which is more practical?
3/8" Craftsman would be most practical if you're only looking to buy one. It'll have a range of about 20-150 ft. lbs. which is perfect for most everything. I have both Snap-On and Craftsman and have never had a problem with either. Just don't try to use it to take things off and you shouldn't have a problem.

I actually have a brand new Craftsman 1/2" Microtork Torque Wrench #944595 with protective case that has just been sitting if interested. Bought it to use at home and lost my job so i didn't have a need for it since i've got a bunch of them. Have a similar one that i use for cylinder head bolts, suspension, and wheels.

You definitely get what you pay for with torque wrenches - I have Matco and they work fine.
