Its actually a V6 engine?
I'v done water pumps on a 302 and 307. It's not hard, you just need patience. You're probably going to need to remove the radiator, fan, fan shroud, the belts, to get to it. Drain the radiator first. Then just unbolt the pump and clean off the block with a gasket scraper or a razor blade. Then apply RTV or gasket sealer and put the new pump on. You might have to move the power steering pump to get to it.

you just gonna have to take every thing off the front of the engine so you can get to it.....

DAM! THeres no other easier way of doing it!
i did the one on my old regal and all i had to do was loosen the alt, powersteering, air pump, and smog pump brackets to take the belts off. then remove the fan and fan pully. then there was about 8 bolts to take off
easy----just make sure all the bolts go back in the same hole you removed them from.

took me about 2 1/2 -3 hours

easy as fuck, matt-a fact i think it was the easiest major thing ive ever done on that 3.8(im pretty sure thats what you have) while your down there though you might wanna change the thermostat n that tiny lil hose going form the water pump to the thermostat housing thats still probably stock on your 85 as was on mine (till it sprang a leak)

yea its not hard at all..i did mine on my regal about 3 months ago..the thing that took the most time was getting everything off around the water pump..all the belts and takin the fan off etc.
Just make sure u get the surface real clean..scrape off the old gasket and maybe take some sandpaper to it..i did mine like that and i've had no problems...its not that hard of a job...just takes up some time.
