Ok I know this probably dumb, but I'm wondering why does my cutlass blow out a lot of white smoke out of the exhaust? Could something be bad?

blown head gasket. the coolant is leaking into the cumbustion chamber and burning

White smoke = oil burning
Could be a broken piston/piston-ring if it smokes all the time.
If it smokes just when the engines starts up, its the valve seals.

How does water smoke
x2Originally posted by racerboy@Dec 14 2008, 08:42 PM~12428852
wrong.
black = excessive fuel
white = water/cooloant
blue = oil
the exception is upon startup in the morning. water is a byproduct of combustion.
smoke is often confused with steam. thats why it dissapates quickly. oil and to a lesser extent fuel smoke linger in the atmosphere longer.Originally posted by Sleepy G@Dec 14 2008, 06:57 PM~12429365

YOU SURE ITS LEAKING AND NOT GETTING BURNED?Originally posted by Supreme859@Dec 14 2008, 07:44 PM~12428864
It does it after 2 or 3 minutes after staring it up, I'm guessin the valve seals? I have a leak in my radiator also, gonna replace that to.
you might think that it does it only when you start it up, but have someone drive your car and follow it. watch it when they begin to brake, then go after the complete stop. if youre driving it yourself you cant see it out your rear view and since youre moving itll be blown away quick so you have to see it from the back. if your car is blowing white smoke your head gasket is blown and its the beginning of the end, time to rebuild motor. if its blue your piston rings are done and its the same story, or your valve seals are done and you need to rebuild the heads which will cost you half of rebuilding the whole motorOriginally posted by pink63impala@Dec 15 2008, 12:37 PM~12435714

JUST DOING VALVE SEALS ISNT GOING TO FIX IT EITHER
