I have a Tacoma rear end & Wishbone under my Impala & when i 3 wheel, the back of my car sways to the side from all the wieght & the spring perch on the frame rubs the back side of the tire because the Tacoma Rear end is shorter & the wheels set further in. I blew my tire once in mid three wheel once. Now i'm a little hesitant to 3 wheel. Is there any way to keep this from happening again. Maybe add a sway bar to the Tacoma rear end?

Any advice??

hmm that is odd...ive never seen that one happen before...is the wishbone axle mount in the center of the pumpkin or off to the right of the pumpkin looking from behind.....what about the bushings in ur trailing arms..new or used..cuz i know the bushings in g body when new the axle wouldnt kick out as far and i woudlnt have issues with the frame rubbing ontop of the drum...but that could also be becuz my springs are softer than before so they squat a lil lower...

It's a Black Magic rearend & wishbone. the wishbone bracket sits in the center of the pumpkin. & MY Trailing arm bushings are fairly new, I installed them not even 2 years ago.

I tried contacting Black Magic on here as well as calling them For some advice, but no response. So i figured i'd just make a topic about it.

hm,,... I personally havent had that problem with any of the Tacoma conversions we have done, do u have deep or shallow reverse cups?

either way, u may need to go to a shallow if u have a deep, u will lose 2 inches of dropped height, but it may be enough to keep the tire off your spring perch

how about some pics of the rear suspension, and it up on a 3 wheel, so I can see it better

See how the perch hits the back of the tire during 3 wheel

hmmm,... looks like you got the shorter rearend, but lemme get Ricky Bobby to weigh in on this one....

see, theres a few different variations on the toyota rear axles that BM uses for these conversions.

you have the 94-98 Tacoma axle, the 89-93 Axle (which is just a lil narrower), and the 4x4 axle which is even that much narrower. its tuff sometimes, because you never know which direction a customer is gonna go with his car, to sell them the correct rearend, and availibility of the axles plays a big part in it also.

for example, typical generic application for an impala with a Toyota axle would be 94-98 tacoma, but if you wanted to run skirts on china wheels, then 89-93 axle would be best, and when you cant get any 89-93 2wd axles from the salvage yard, then they would opt for the 4x4 axle, which would be no problem at all, unless you yank a monster 3 wheel, then you risk the chance of the tire rubbing the spring perch, which is what I think is happening here.

give Rick a few minutes, see what he has to say......

I was told by Jess at black Magis that it was out of a 95 Tacoma.

do me a favor,.. take a straight on picture, of the axle, a close up of the area like backing plate to lower trailing arm mount. on either side, i just need to see how close the axle tabs are to the backing plates ;)

This is a earlier 80's Axle Which is shorter then the rest, Wheel spacer's will fix the problem and stop the rubbing.

Depending on how far you have to space them, you may need longer studs to have a safe amount of threads for the lugnuts to hold.
That's kinda what i was thinking, but i wanted to be sure.
Thanx

so the 89-93 2wd axle is best for skirts and chinas, but no monster 3 wheelin??
what about a ford 9in with skirts and chinas do you still have to shortin a 9in or is it good to go?a ford 9in are out of earliey 60s to earliey 70s full size fords and merc's like trucks no fairlane or galixe's are 9in? great topic

Ford 9"s are even worse, they been doing those rearends for so long, there are tons of different size variations. whether it be a 9" from a mustang, or a 9" from a van,... wheeew the goes on! you have to be careful with the 9' tho, because an 8.8 looks exactly the same, but i dont think there would be any difference using either, but dont pay 9" price, for a 8.8 ...lol
